Digital Traditional Game

Title: Digital Traditional Game
<br/>
<br/>Authors: Nurul Syakirin Ramli
<br/>
<br/>Abstract: This paper is purposely written to present the result of a research done regarding
digital traditional game development for kids and teenagers. Being brought up in big and
sophisticated cities, youngsters nowadays are not usually exposed to the traditional games
that are used to be played in old times. Fading towards the extinction, the importance of
developing a digital version of these games seem to be a crucial step to prevent those
once famous games lost in time. Besides, most of the digital games on market nowadays
fail to maintain the kids’ enthusiasm towards the applications, due to their attractiveness
issue. Furthermore, some of the contents provided are not easily handled or understood
by the children of age 8 to 15 years old, making the application itself dull and boring.
The main goal of this research is to develop a digital traditional game of Batu
Seremban for kids in primary and secondary schools. I intended to develop a digital Batu
Seremban game that is able to be enjoyed among 8 to 15 years old students. The idea of
introducing this digital version of Batu Seremban game is to let inexperience players be
familiar with the way it is being played, without ignoring those who have already known
the game and wanted to try the digital version of the Batu Seremban. This application is
integrating a user friendly and attractive interface, several challenging stages for different
skill level of players and also a friendly Artificial Intelligence (AI) – a computer player.
The enjoyment intensity of playing digital games is believed to be depending on the
ii
ability to maintain the interest of the players toward the game as long as possible; and
without neglecting the fact, as a simple and attractive digital game, it can also be played
by adults during leisure with no doubt that the excitement to be felt has no different as
kids see it.
To experiment the research, I have decided to conduct an observation and brief
interview with a group of target audience regarding their exposure to the traditional Batu
Seremban game, interest towards computer games and also improvement expected on
current digital games in the market. The outcome of this brief survey proves that the
development of the digital game involves considering several important aspects to ensure
the successful of the application itself. The major keys of developing a good user centric
game application include attractive interface, simple controls, and also an intelligent AI.
To validate these cores, game application demonstration and testing would be done to
ensure the level of audiences’ satisfaction is fulfilled towards its completion.

<br/>Abstract: This paper presents the outcome of the first stage of an ongoing research that deals with games integration in education. The main goal of my research is to see how games and gaming is in Malaysia’s education system. At the end of the research, a proposed game is developed. This game application is going to help reach the state goal with attractive interface, interactive environment and functional capabilities. Educators of lower‐secondary level (Geography) can use this game as an interactive designed unit of instruction to supplement the traditional education teaching method for a more fun
and sophisticated teaching style.
This research also explores the domain of which games benefiting the player and the student in acquisition of skill, knowledge and in medium as practical platform for learn knowledge.
The three main subjects that this research study are [1] how games affect learning concentration, [2] the integration between games and learning environment and [3] can games enhance the knowledge learn by student.

<br/>
<br/>Abstract: SME Collaborative Portal is a Portal that provides an environment for users to purchase
products from SMEs in Malacca, SMEs to promote their products and services and also a place where SMEs can exchange information. Basic functionalities such as to search for a particular product and SME Company, purchase products, and forum discussions are included in the portal.
What makes this portal different from other collaborative portals is that it is a portal
specially dedicated to SMEs in Malacca. All SMEs in Malacca will be able to promote and sell their products online in order to expend their market both locally and also globally.
SME Malacca is a web based portal where users can access anywhere provided that there
is internet connectivity. This portal will eliminate the need for users to go to the SME Company personally in order to purchase the products. They can do their searching and purchasing online and in the convenience of their own home.
The portal is build using php as the programming language and apache and XAMPP as
the web server and MySQL as the database.
With this system, I hope that it will be able to assist SMEs to increase their sales and also to promote their products to a wider market range both locally and globally. Besides that, I also hope that with the development of this portal more users will come to know and learn about the
uniqueness of Malacca and also the existences of the types of SMEs in Malaysia.

Law of physics simulation: Gravity

Title: Law of physics simulation: Gravity
<br/>
<br/>Authors: Ng, Bai Hui
<br/>
<br/>Abstract: The purpose of this study was to discuss about creating an alternative physics simulator on experimenting the topic of gravity. This system must be able to accept input parameters from the user as well as documenting the output. The simulator will be created using Java programming language. The simulation will aim to produce a real-time response in bouncing from the point where the ball is set off till it stopped bouncing.
The approach taken in order to complete this project includes the integration of numerical
methods which will exchange the data without any semantics associated with the raw data,
steering, which will control the shift from a mathematical/physical point of view into a
computational/performance point of view and also dynamic simulation which will change
the simulation based on the input signal.
One of the controlling factors in the realism of the simulation depends largely on the bounciness or elasticity of the ball. While it is safe to neglect the air resistance in the falling of an object body, other criteria such as the gravitational pull, type of ball and surface hardness will affect the subsequent bouncing of a dropping object. When the completed system was being taken to test, the result was that more than 70% of the users are satisfied with the system – in terms of the realism in simulation as well as the different kind of selection in gravitational field. The overall understanding of the users with
regards to this topic has also increased.
The author recommends the teachers in secondary school to give experimental simulation a try because it will certainly deepen the student’s impression towards the theory. While this topic is just a small portion in the syllabus, it is always tested in major examinations. Therefore, by utilizing other learning facilities will promote students’ understanding.

Title: An interactive application for teaching/learning the principles of audio content retrieval
<br/>
<br/>Authors: Junaida Sulaiman
<br/>
<br/>Abstract: This paper presents the outcomes and the ongoing research of developing an interactive multimedia application for higher education, on teaching audio content
retrieval. Compared to the content-based image and video, very little work has been done on the audio part of the multimedia bit stream. However, as there are more and more
audio databases in place at present, people start to realize the importance of audio content analysis. Thus, this application will mainly focus on delivering the methods on how to retrieve an audio which has 4 stages; Feature Extraction, Segmentation, Classification and Indexing to assist both learners and instructor.The measurements to see how effective the design of an IMM application is to look upon these four elements; 1) Presentation of information, 2) Guidance about how to proceed, 3) Practice for fluency and retention, 4) Assessment to determine need for remediation and next steps. These four elements of a learning environment can be embedded in e-learning or used in a combination of technology-based and nontechnology- based instruction, but the environment must include all four elements to be effective. Although most of the elements can be implemented without multimedia, multimedia can make them even more effective and meaningful.
