| Abstract: | The explosive growth of the Internet and the advent of sophisticated services require a guaranteed Quality of service. Hence, the resource reservation protocol was proposed. When resource reservation is applied in mobile network, the processes involved a number of steps which invariably results in overheads when handoff occurs. This is because the reservation protocol re-sets up the reservation by executing the protocol complexity, and incurs additional processing overheads on the network routers. To achieve the efficient performance in mobile network, a hybrid method is proposed which incorporates features of the Cross-over Router scheme with Pointer Forwarding scheme. The hybrid scheme makes one-step forward advance of reservation before the mobile node (MN) handoffs take place, then identifies the location of Crossover Router to minimize the waste of bandwidth. We have selected NS2 network simulator to test. Simulation result shows that the hybrid scheme shortens handover delay time, lower packet drop probability, and increases throughput. We demonstrated that the lightweight reservation protocol performs well when it works with hybrid scheme. |
