| Title: | AN APPLICATION FOR CREATING E-LEARNING CONTENT STORYBOARD BASED ON INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN PRINCIPLES |

| Abstract: | Developing content for e-learning is no different from traditional teaching content in
the sense that it must be based on a solid foundation. Subject Matter Expert (SME) needs to
be reminded and constantly guided throughout the content development process to ensure
they do not go overboard with content design. The lack of pedagogical perspective during
content design tends to make the SME handover the daunting tasks of designing content to
Instructional Designer (ID). A typical scenario would be that the SME would simply pass a
stack of unstructured training materials and expects the ID to go through it before engaging
in a discussion with the SME on how to process the raw content. This paper discusses on
the development of an application for assisting the SME to construct e-learning content
storyboards based on an instructional design principles. Based on the targeted user group,
the instructional design principles that has been identified for the study is Gagne’s Nine
Learning Events (Gagne, 1992).
To accomplish the study, interviews with industrial practitioner was used to get the
initial functional requirements of the application. The data gathered was then used to
identify the data entities and hence the design of the application. The final version of the
application was then tested by the interviewed practitioner to ensure the requirements were
successfully translated into the application. After which, a quantitative measure via
questionnaires was used to determine the effectiveness of the developed application. The
application was given to a group of 18 industrial practitioners to be tried out in their
working environment. |
