Abstract: With the growth of technology, many researchers have being exploring the use of computer support in group work. This research discusses the development of a groupware support for Nominal Group Technique which is a highly structured method for generating problem solving alternatives and arriving at a decision. There are already numerous tools available to support Nominal Group Technique; however none really support all its processes. In order to develop the appropriate groupware support for NGT, a literature review is first conducted to identify the different processes involved in a nominal group session. In addition a comprehensive study of groupware is conducted to identify some of the challenges which arise when developing those kinds of tools. Furthermore a comparative study of the existing computer systems which support this technique is performed to identify their strengths as well as their weaknesses to help better determine the functionalities of the “Groupware Support for Nominal Group Technique” (GSNGT) to be developed. Based on the conclusion of the findings, a web-based groupware tool was developed to support NGT. The GSNGT system supports all the steps involved in the Nominal Group Technique process: topic introduction, silent idea generation, idea sharing in a round-robin manner, idea discussion, voting on idea and short report generation. An object-oriented approach is used to develop GSNGT. Finally an evaluation of the system was conducted and the results recorded concluded that it fulfilled its purpose as a Groupware support for Nominal Group Technique.
