Title: Designing a curriculum in school librarianship for faculties of education in Sudan

Abstract: The aim of this study was to propose a curriculum in school librarianship for the Faculties of Education in Sudan. An e-mail survey was carried out of school librarianship programs offered at eleven Faculties of Education in the selected countries to determine their objectives, contents, problems, and advantages and disadvantages of offering these programs at the Faculties of Education in comparison to library/information schools. Advise on designing a school librarianship program was also obtained. Interviews were also conducted through an open-ended questionnaire with five Sudanese US professionals on the importance of school libraries and a curriculum at the Faculties of Education in Sudan. In view of the aims of the study, the small numbers involved, and the low response rate, no quantitative analysis was attempted. Based on a qualitative analysis of the findings, the study proposes a curriculum for the Faculties of Education in Sudan. The program should be conducted at the undergraduate level, and it should be initially implemented at one of the Faculties. After evaluation, acquisition of suitable equipment and qualified teaching staff, the program should be implemented at all Faculties of Education in Sudan. Information Technology (IT) should be considered as an important subject in the curriculum and there should be a suitable planning for greater incorporation of IT in future, based on the available resources and needs of the country.
